Entry into the fitness industry can be tough and expensive, many wanting to gain entry spend thousands on qualifications but lack experience. Upon successful completion of our Apprenticeship scheme, you will have gained a variety of qualifications including lifeguarding, swim teaching, Fitness and Gym certificates and many more, all of which are paid for by the Aqua Centre.

As an Apprentice, you will get involved in all aspects of Centre operations including lifeguarding, fitness instruction, swimming teaching, exercise classes, maintenance, health & safety and front of house. You will have an ability to work as part of a team, to be independent in your daily tasks and to use your initiative when it comes to Centre operations and customers experience.

The Leisure Team Leader is responsible for leading a team of leisure or recreational staff and managing the day-
to-day operations of a leisure facility or program. They ensure the delivery of exceptional customer service,
maintain a safe and enjoyable environment, and coordinate various leisure activities.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
1. Team Leadership and Management:
 
– Supervise and manage a team of leisure staff, providing guidance, training, and support.
– Delegate tasks and responsibilities to team members to ensure efficient operation of the facility or program.
– Conduct regular team meetings to discuss goals, performance, and upcoming activities.
 
2. Customer Service:
 
– Foster a customer-focused culture among the team to deliver excellent customer service.
– Address customer concerns or complaints promptly and professionally, aiming for customer satisfaction and
retention.
 
3. Operations and Facility Management:
 
– Oversee the day-to-day operations of the leisure facility, ensuring cleanliness, safety, and functionality.
– Monitor facility usage and implement strategies to optimize resource allocation and improve efficiency.
– Coordinate with maintenance and support staff to ensure necessary repairs and maintenance are completed.
 
4. Activity Planning and Coordination:
 
– Plan, organise, and coordinate various leisure activities and events to meet customer needs and expectations.
– Develop schedules and activity plans, ensuring a diverse range of recreational options for customers.
– Collaborate with other departments or organisations to enhance leisure offerings and expand program options.
 
5. Safety and Compliance:
 
– Enforce safety protocols and procedures to maintain a secure environment for both customers and staff.
– Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety, and regulatory standards in all leisure activities and facilities.
 
6. Budget Management:
 
– Assist in budget preparation and monitor spending to ensure financial targets are met or exceeded.
– Propose cost-effective solutions to improve operations and enhance customer experiences within budget
constraints.
 
7. Staff Development and Training:
 
– Identify training needs within the team and develop training programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
– Encourage professional growth and development among team members, providing constructive feedback and
performance evaluations.
 
8. Qualifications:
 
– RLSS national Pool Lifeguard (Or equivalent), First aid at work, Swimming teaching and Gym instructing are
desirable.
– Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role within the leisure or recreation industry.
– Strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
– Knowledge of leisure facility operations, safety protocols, and customer service principles.
– Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Full Job Description
Our Lifeguards have one of the most important jobs at our Centre and that is
ensuring the safety of customers in and around the Centre. As a lifeguard you will be
involved with all aspects of the day to day operations including; Lifeguarding,
Swimming Teaching and delivering excellent customer service in a safe, welcoming
and FUN environment. You will need to be flexible as the role is definitely multi-
tasking and will vary depending on the day and needs of the Centre.
The Lifeguard is the Face of the Aqua Centre and has an important role to play in
ensuring that our customers leave the Centre satisfied.
You will have an ability to work within the team, to be independent in your daily tasks
and to use your initiative when it comes to Centre operations and customers
experience. At all times you will be expected to behave in a professional manner and
a member of the team.
We will be employing candidates with high levels of communication skills and who
can demonstrate their passion for health and fitness and who ideally holds the
following qualification:
 
  • National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (or equivalent)
 
Experience or qualifications in exercise classes or swimming teaching would also be
an advantage.
